The short version

Castro Valley Handyman is a one-person, owner-operated business. Any information you share through this website is used to respond to your inquiry and complete the work you've asked about — nothing else. Your information is never sold, traded, or used for outside marketing.

What I collect

When you use the contact form, I receive whatever you put in it: your name, phone number, email address, the type of work you need, your message, and any photos you attach.

When you call or email me directly, I have whatever you tell me, plus your phone number or email address from caller ID or your message header.

What I do with it

I use your information to:

• Reply to your inquiry
• Schedule and complete the work you've asked about
• Send a follow-up if a quote needs revising or a part needs ordering
• Keep basic records for tax and accounting purposes

I do not sell, rent, trade, or share your information with marketers, advertisers, or any third party for promotional purposes.

Who else sees it

A few service providers help me run the business and may handle your information in the process:

• Customer records, estimates, and invoices are managed in QuoteIQ, the software I use to run the business day-to-day.
• Payments (when you pay an invoice by card or bank transfer) are processed by Stripe through QuoteIQ. Stripe sees the payment details directly; I only see the last 4 digits of your card and a confirmation that payment went through.
• Form submissions are processed by FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), which forwards them to my email.
• Email is hosted by my email provider (currently Namecheap Private Email).
• The website is hosted by Hostinger.

These providers see your data only as needed to deliver their service and don't use it for their own purposes.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not use Google Analytics, Facebook trackers, advertising pixels, or any other third-party tracking. No cookies are set for analytics or marketing purposes.

How long I keep it

How long I keep your information depends on what it is:

• General contact inquiries that don't lead to a job — kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Customer contact info and job records (estimates, invoices, photos, notes) — kept for at least 7 years after the job is completed. This is required for tax and accounting purposes, and protects both of us if a question comes up about the work later (warranty, follow-up service, insurance, or a dispute).
• Payment records — held by Stripe according to their own retention policies, which I don't control. Card details themselves are never stored by me.

After the retention period ends, I'll delete or anonymize the information unless I'm required to keep it longer (for example, if there's an open insurance claim or legal matter).

Your choices

You can email info@castrovalleyhandyman.com at any time to:

• Ask what information I have about you
• Correct anything that's inaccurate
• Request that I delete your information

I'll honor deletion requests where I can. But under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and standard business practice, there are situations where I'm allowed — and sometimes required — to keep records even after a deletion request. Specifically, I will retain:

• Records of completed work (estimates, invoices, photos, job notes) needed for tax, accounting, warranty, or insurance purposes
• Information needed to defend against or resolve a dispute, chargeback, or legal claim
• Information I'm required to keep by law

If you ask me to delete your information and one of these exceptions applies, I'll let you know what I'm keeping and why. Once the reason for keeping it has passed, I'll delete it.

Security

The website uses HTTPS encryption so anything you submit through the form travels securely. I take reasonable steps to protect the information I keep, but no system is 100% secure — so please don't share anything especially sensitive (like financial account numbers) through the contact form.

Children

This website isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If I update this policy, I'll change the "last updated" date at the top of the page. For meaningful changes, I'll do my best to flag it.
